Arabella (hárs)

The Arabella is a beautifully designed grain mill that has been manufactured in Hungary for about 40 years. Only in details has it been improved over the years.

The basic construction was perfect from the beginning, which led the manufacturer to say that he does not know how long the Arabella will last because he has only been making it for 40 years. Unfortunately, he was still only able to come up with a 5-year guarantee.

Details

The Arabella is made of solid wood, i.e. no pressboard and virtually no plastic is used. The grinding chamber is also made of wood. It is only 31 cm high and 16 cm in diameter. It fits into a small kitchen and is still a decorative piece.

The grinding stones are 90 mm in diameter and are made of corundum ceramic, as is common today in household mills. The work is done by a power-saving 200 W motor with overload protection. This is also quite sufficient to produce 1 kg of finely ground wholemeal flour in 10 minutes, i.e. 100 g/min. At coarser settings, the Arabella naturally grinds faster.

The fineness of grind is adjusted by turning the funnel, which you can also turn off completely if you want to reach the inside of the mill. According to the manufacturer, the hopper holds 700 g, but for wheat it is more likely to be exactly half a kilo, which saves weighing if you need 1 kg of flour, for example.

All types of grain can be ground with the Arabella, including maize (no popcorn maize and oats only coarse). The mill also processes pulses, such as chickpeas, without any problems if they are dry.
